What about the children?
Dundalk and Proton School
This is the Dundalk and Proton Community School, a fantastic JK to Grade 3 school. It's also "Closest Point Of Reception" for emissions from the proposed sludge processing plant, located just 350 metres away, and backs onto the waste Park.
Kids N Us Daycare
This facility serves children from pre-school years as well as students of the Dundalk and Proton School before, during and after school hours. On any given day one can find these tots playing outside. One wonders what the long-term effects of the emissions from the proposed waste processing facilities will be on the health of the attendees. Well, at least some people wonder. Council has decided that it's going to leave it up to the Ministry Of Environment to figure that one out. Shameful.
Highpoint Community School
Here's the other school, this one from Grade 4 to Grade 8. Students of this school will be dealing with the massive influx of toxic-waste-carrying trucks rolling by throughout the day up Main Street, which a multitude of children use as their route to and from school. I guess sentencing these kids to play dodge-em with feces-filled open tarped semi trucks sounded like a good idea to our elected representatives. They did however commission a truck traffic study (which apparently is still in draft form and not finalized) some months after they had already signed off on the deal. UPDATE: Traffic study is complete. Up to 82 Truck Trips a day in peak season. Yikes.
